How to Type Foreign Language Characters

We have had many request for information on how to type foreign characters on computer systems. Some languages do not currently have standardized systems for writing to computers. We are listing the character codes for latin based text on this page so you can create the letters that use accents. An excellent site to visit for using foreign language text is Penn State Computing with Foreign Symbols If you are looking for information on Unicode for coding software to display languages then we suggest you visit the Offical Unicode Website. You also may want to try an open source program called QuickKey as an alternative to using alt keys to display charactors. If you are a business and would like to be a sponsor of this site or you find any bad links or new useful links then please contact us from the appropriate address on our How To Contact Us webpage.

If you're using a PC, then press the ALT key and enter the numbers
using the keypad instead of the number keys on the top of letters.
Some systems require that you enter the
unicode numbers and then press ALT-X.

If you are using a laptop without a numeric keypad then do a search for "Character Map" on your computer. This is usually located in the control panel/keyboard section of your files. Once you bring up the "Character Map" you can copy and paste the special characters to your document.

If you are using a Macintosh, this is a table of key combinations
you need to use to type foreign characters.
